How to Find a Good Christian Husband
One of the concerns of many single Christian women is, “How can I find a good Christian man?” This article based on the story in Genesis 24 has been very helpful to me. Even though the story is about a man finding a woman the same principles apply in a woman’s case. Read it. Let me know what you think.

Single and Searching
Many Christian singles are interested in finding a good person to marry. I describe these individuals as, “single and searching.” There are a number of principles found in the story recorded in Genesis 24:1-66 that can be helpful in finding a good Christian man or woman to marry. I would suggest that you read the story first and then read this article.
In this story, Abraham appoints his most trusted servant to go and find a wife for his son Isaac. I want to suggest nine principles that can help you to find the person that will become your future husband or wife.
1. Believe that it is God’s will for you to marry.
Abraham knew that it was God’s will for Isaac to marry. God had promised Abraham that he would have many descendants. In order for that to happen his family tree would need to grow. If you are to find someone to marry, you must first believe that this is God's plan for you.
2. Trust God for success.
If you believe it is God’s will for you to marry, then you must trust God that he will lead you to the right person. In the story, Abraham affirmed his trust in God by telling the servant that God would send his angel before the servant so that he could get a wife for his son (verse 7). Many times we get worried because we have not been successful in finding someone. Recognize that your life is in God's hands. Trust him with your future.
3. Know what you are looking for.
Abraham had certain criteria for the woman who was to be chosen for Isaac. In particular, she was not to be from the daughters of the Canaanites (verse 3). As you are looking for someone to marry you need to know what you are looking for; otherwise, without that information, how would you know that you have found the right person? This principle involves describing the qualities that you are looking for in the person that you wish to marry. For example, the person needs to be a committed Christian, have a sense of humor, enjoys travel and other preferred qualities.
4. Pray.
The servant prayed to God that he would grant him success. Praying to God reminds you that He is working on your behalf. Ultimately, finding a mate is not up to you. He will bring it to pass. Being diligent in prayer will be a daily reminder of this truth.
5. Start looking.
The servant set out on his mission (verse 10). God is not necessarily going to bring the person to you. He will allow you to meet as you are in the process of searching.
6. Enlist the help of others.
Isaac had the help of his father and his father’s most trusted servant. It is advisable to inform others whom you trust and who know you well of your desire to find a godly person to marry. They will provide advice and support. When Rebecca was found, others confirmed that she was God’s choice (verses 50-51).
7. Go with something to offer.
In the story, the servant brought gifts as an offering to the girl and her family. You want to be a person to whom others are attracted. The key thing you have to offer to others is your character. You will tend to attract the kind of person that you are. If you want to attract a person who is committed to a life of following Jesus Christ, then you must be that type of person.
8. Go where people meet.
Abraham’s servant went to the well during the evening. He did this because this was where the women would gather (verse 11). This is one of the challenging principles. The church is the best place to meet a potential Christian spouse. Of course, statistically speaking, there are more women in the church than men. A common question that is asked is, “What about finding a good person and converting them?” My answer to that is, “We should be about the task of sharing the gospel with others as a part of our normal Christian lives. One word of caution should be exercised here. Make sure the person isn’t making a decision for Christ simply to please you. There are other great places to meet people including professional conferences, service project events, fairs and hobby or special interest shows. Certain internet sites provide a viable option for finding people. Of course, caution and common sense should be exercised before meeting with anyone that you first contact via the internet.
9. Give God thanks for the victory.
In this story the servant finds Rebecca, who ultimately becomes Isaac’s wife. Even in the midst of the process the servant worships God and gives Him thanks. It is the Lord who granted him success. When God leads you to the right person you will be able to give thanks with great joy.
